Loving the idea of something isn't enough.
'Let em come' by Scroobius Pip has a great line about kids loving being writers more than they love writing...
I see a lot of this in programming and development in general.
People love the idea and freedom of calling themselves a developer, but they don't really love to develop.
I also see it a lot in the startup world in general.
People fall in love with an idea and calling themselves an entrepreneur, but they don’t really want to do the real work behind making it actually happen.
In my experience, if it’s just about the title or the money, it’s going to be a long and difficult journey (more stressful and draining than most people are willing to deal with over long periods of time).
There are no quick or easy paths (at least not that reliably result in true success).
So it’s cliche, but “learn to love the journey” actually is sage advice for anyone that truly wants to find success.
