I'm an amateur game developer at best. I do it almost entirely for the creative outlet & the fun.
Still - I got the chance to give a talk about building games to a group of high school kids recently & was surprised to see how many games I've made (slide didn't even include them all)
Just goes to prove once again that a little, consistent, effort over a long period of time really does build up into some amazing things.
Of course I know this to be true from my experience writing the Pro Active Record book many years ago (where I first learned to truly embrace the “commit to the habit” concept).
And I have consciously applied it daily in my approach to software development (my daily GitHub streak is approaching 9 years)
But it’s interesting — and great validation — to me to see this core philosophy continue to prove itself over-and-over again (even when you aren’t doing it or thinking about it intentionally).
